NEW 16 Day – Johannesburg to Namibia

Relax on a safe trip from Johannesburg where we will enter Botswana that lies in the Kalahari, and work our way to Windhoek, where we will visit German style buildings, museums, and plenty more, that brings us to the red sand dunes of Sesriem and Sossusvlei, where we will have a taste of the best and famous apple pie in the world. Then we make our way to Walvisbay and Swakopmund, for fun on the highest sand dunes as well as the beach. We will continue to Damaraland, where we visit the Cape Cross seals, a visit to lake Otjikoto, in Tsumeb where military weapons were dumped during war, and work our way to Etosha National Park (its characteristic is a large salt pan that can be seen from space) with the most common and rarest wildlife. Our next stop will be at Spitzkoppe, also known as "Matterhorn" of Namibia, before we will have a nice meal. Then we work our way back via Botswana to Johannesburg.

Day 1
Pick you up at 05h00 from OR Tambo International Airport or your nearby hotel/lodge. Leave for Rustenburg where we will stop for breakfast (Own expense). We will travel on the N4 to Zeerust, where we will stop for lunch (Own expense). We then make our way to Skilpadshek Border Post, where we will enter into Botswana. Botswana is one of the great safari destinations in Africa and is wild Africa at its best. A few kilometers from the border, we will reach our destination in Lobatsi where we will overnight. Here we will go on our first open vehicle game drive, before or after we had a hearty dinner. (Dinner)

Day 2
An early start to have breakfast at 07h00, and leaving for our next destination in Botswana. We will stop en-route for lunch in Jwaneng. After lunch, we will make our way on the Kalahari highway to Kang. When we reached our destination in Kang we will relax for the rest of the afternoon until dinner is served that evening. Day 3
Up early, to have breakfast at 07h00. We leave at 08h00 for Buitepos Border Post where we will enter into Namibia. The name of this country derived from the Namib Desert, which is considered the oldest desert in the world. We will enjoy lunch at the border, and then continue to our first overnight destination in Namibia, close to Gobabis. After booking into our camp or lodge, we will relax until dinner later that evening. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4
This morning we leave after breakfast and around 8h00 on our way to Windhoek. Windhoek is the capitol of the Republic of Namibia, located in central Namibia in the Khomas Highland Plateau area. When we reached Windhoek, we will enjoy lunch at a restaurant. After lunch, we will visit the oldest building in Windhoek, the Alte Feste, which was originally used as a barracks. We will also visit the Christ Church that is a historic landmark, the Lutheran Church, the National Museum, and many more. Much later that afternoon we will leave for our campsite/ lodge where we will book in, and later enjoy dinner. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5
We wake up at 06h00, in time for breakfast at 07h00, and leave our camp/lodge at 08h00. We travel towards Sossusvlei and stop in Reboth where we will get en-route lunch.(Own expense). We then continue our journey up to our campsite/ lodge on the outskirts of Sossusvlei where we will book in, and for those who want, can go on a sundowner walk. We enjoy a hearty dinner later this evening.(Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 6
An early rise to have breakfast at 07h00, and then leave for Sossusvlei. Sossusvlei is possibly Namibia’s most spectacular and best –known attraction, characterized by the large red dunes that surround it. Sossusvlei is a large, white salt and clay pan, and a great destination all year round. The dunes in this area are some of the highest in the world, and provide photographic enthusiasts with wonderful images in the beautiful morning and evening light. From Sossusvlei we travel to Solitaire where we will enjoy lunch at the famous Apple pie restaurant. Our journey continues from here to Long Beach, between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, where we will spend a few nights. On arriving at our camp / lodge, we will book our optional activities for the upcoming days and then relax at our own leisure. We will enjoy dinner later that evening.(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 7
Wake up at 06h00 to be ready for breakfast at 07h00. At 08h00 we will be picked up from our camp/ lodge, for a living desert tour up to 13h00. This half-day desert tour concentrates on exploring the local dune-belt between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. Arriving from the desert later enjoy dinner in town, before returning to our campsite/ lodge.(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 8
We wake up at 06h00 and enjoy breakfast at 07h00. The rest of the day is spent at our own leisure with the optional activities, or just relaxing in camp. Later the afternoon we will explore Swakopmund and will enjoy dinner in town, before we return to our camp/ lodge.(Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 9
Again, up at 06h00 to have breakfast at 07h00 and leaving Walvis Bay at 08h00 via Henties Bay to Cape Cross, where we will visit the seal colony. Cape Cross is Namibia’s most popular tourist attraction in breeding season, when thousands of seals come to shore, making an amazing sight. Later we will enjoy lunch in Henties Bay, before making our way to Khorixas, where we will visit the Petrified Forest, deep in the heart of Damaraland. Here you can see the fossilized trunks of trees, which are estimated to be 280 million years old. From here, we work our way to our camp/ lodge, where we will book in and enjoy dinner.(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 10
We wake up at 06h00 and have breakfast at 07h00. After breakfast, we leave Khorixas to our next destination – Outjo, where we will have a quick stop. Then we travel to Etosha National Park, world renowned for its spectacular wildlife, and one of the largest conservation areas in Africa. Lunch packs to be provided. As soon as we enter Etosha Park, we will have another quick stop, before working our way through the park to our overnight lodge or campsite. We will book in, and then go on an open vehicle night game drive for three hours with rangers from the park. We will have dinner before or after the game drive, depending time. Day 11
Today we have breakfast at 08h00 and leaving the camp at 09h00, doing self drive game viewing, up to our next destination, still inside the Park. We will visit the Namutoni Fort on our way. Namutoni was originally established as a control post during the mad cow disease epidemic of 1897. We will have lunch at Namutoni, before we make our way to the overnight destination. At our lodge/ campsite, we will book in and then watch the wildlife around the waterholes. We will enjoy a nice dinner that evening. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 12
Up at 06h00 to leave our camp/ lodge as soon as the gates open and work our way to Otjikoto, near Tsumeb. Here we will visit Lake Otjikoto, which was exposed when the roof of what used to be a dolomite cave gave in. During World War 1 the Union of South Africa, which was still part of the British Empire, was ordered to invade German Southwest Africa (Namibia). The entire enemy’s artillery was dumped into the lake. After visiting Lake Otjikoto, we will enjoy breakfast in Tsumeb and then continue to the Hoba meteorite. This is the largest known meteorite and likewise the largest known single mass of native iron known on earth. We then will reach our overnight camp or lodge. We book in and go on an open vehicle game drive, before we enjoy a hearty dinner. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 13
We leave Otjiwarongo at 07h00, to Omaruru, where we will enjoy breakfast. After breakfast, we depart via Usakos to Spitzkoppe. Spitzkoppe is also described as the “Matterhorn” of Namibia, and a good sighting. We will have lunch, before we go to Windhoek, where we will book into our camp/ lodge and relax until dinnertime the evening.(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 14
This morning we wake up at 07h00 and have breakfast at 08h00, then leaving Windhoek for Gobabis. We enjoy lunch in Gobabis, before working our way to Buitepos Border Post where we will overnight close to the border. On our arrival, we will book into our camp/ lodge and enjoy dinner.(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 15
Up at 06h00, we have breakfast and then leave the camp/ lodge to Buitepos Border Post and back into Botswana. We will stop en-route for lunch (Own expense). We then continue to our camp/ lodge at Kang, where we will book in and relax until dinner is served later that evening. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 16
Up at 05h00 and leaving Kang at 06h00 for Skilpadshek Border Post, and back into South Africa. We will work our way to Zeerust, where we will have brunch. After brunch, we leave for OR Tambo International Airport or your nearby lodge/ hotel. We will be there at about 18h00 to say our goodbyes. Please do not book any flights for this evening. (Brunch)
